Political parties have started preparing for the assembly elections set in the upcoming year in 5 states which includes Uttar Pradesh. The state was recently in the headlines for the Lakhimpur Kheri incident. However, the tussle for the election is already begun. The regional party Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party are prominent in the state along with Congress and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Aam Adami Party too is trying to create its space and impact in the state.
In a bid to woo voters ahead of the elections Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced that Congress will give 40% of seats for women candidates in the assembly polls. The announcement comes after a few days when Priyanka Gandhi was arrested and manhandled by UP police when tried to meet the family of victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
While interacting with the media She said, “the party will give 40 percent of its tickets to women in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections.” Further, while taking Jibe at BJP She said, “Women will fully participate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections. Parties think they can appease women by giving an LPG cylinder, Rs 2000.”
For this, they came up with ‘ladki hu ladh sakti hu’ meaning (I’m women I can fight) Congress is working hard to have some grip in the forthcoming elections in the state. This decision of congress is welcome but congress as a party has to do a lot and work on various other aspects to be on par with BJP. They also need to sort out their internal disputes.
