On December 6, 1992, a huge mob with saffron flags rushed to the site of Babri masjid at Ayodya and with hammers and other tools tried to demolish Babri Masjid as the people believed there was Ram Temple at the site. Ever since that incident and that day the place had become a disputed land until October 2019 when the supreme court gave the historic verdict that opened the doors for the government to construct Ram Temple at Ayodhya.

Supreme Court Verdict On Babri Masjid

Now, the Bhoomipujan of the land is also done by prime minister Narendra Modi and the temple is under construction which will surely get completed before 2024 as in 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be scheduled. From 2014 when prime minister Narendra Modi was the prime ministerial candidate building ram temple was always on the BJP’s agenda. However, it could not have in the first tenure that is 2014-2019 but in the second tenure immediately after getting re-elected in May 2019, it became possible as the Supreme Court gave the verdict in November 2019.

Babri Masjid Incident And BJP Leaders

Today BJP is the largest party in India with a large number of young followers and party workers their base is so strong that there is no equally strong opposition to them. But what BJP is today has its roots in political history. What all achievements prime minister Narendra Modi and other leaders like Amit Shah, Yogi Adityanath, Devendra fadnavis, etc have are the fruits of the hard work of BJP leaders like LK Advani, Atal Bihari Bajpayee, Manohar Joshi, Yashwant Sinha, etc.

Quick Glance Of The Past

Till 1977, there was so strong political force that could oppose Congress. But due to the emergency imposed and its after-effects a first non-congress government was formed in independent India.  Later an alliance non-congress government was formed though it did not last long but became a path breaker as it proved that Congress can be opposed in India.

Politicization Of Mandir-Masjid Issue

Later, under the leadership of LK Advani and Atal Bihari Bajpayee BJP as a party started becoming strong building it’s base on the idea of nationalism and Hindutva. They made the two terms synonymous. They organized a ‘Rath Yatra’ and firmly made the topic of ram mandir the core of their politics. It is definitely true that they brought the reality of Ram mandir in front of the people but the politicization they did was in a way wrong.

Change In Politics Of BJP And Shivsena Post Babri Masjid Incident

Ever since the Archaeological Survey of India took over this issue and found that there was Ram Mandir BJP made that topic epicenter of their politics. When the 6th December 1992 incident took place Shivsena Chief Balasaheb Thackeray took the responsibility saying if the masjid was demolished by my party men then I’m proud of them. This made him the ‘hinduhridaysamrat’.

BJP leaders also later supported their volunteers. After that incident, several communal violent riots took place in India in which many innocents lost their lives. But since then BJP got to form its first government with Bajpayee being the Prime Minister. Shivsena despite being a regional party prominent in Maharashtra gain nationwide popularity.

Today as 29 years completed to this incident it changed the face of BJP and Shivsena making them the flag bearer of Hindutva.
