Maharashtra has always been a progressive state from the time which goes back to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s era. Maharashtra has always supported women’s empowerment, especially in politics. It was Shivaji Maharaj’s mother Jija Mata who inculcated values to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and handled the kingdom.
The state has always encouraged women to participate in all fields including politics. Today in all the major political parties of the state like Shivsena, BJP, Congress, NCP have many women leaders each party has a separate women wing and they play an equally important role in state politics. However, there is this glitch that despite being such a progressive state no woman politician has become the chief minister of the state since its formation.
Here we take a look at the five women politicians from Maharashtra who are leading from the front in politics of the state and have created their unique space in the party, politics, and followers. All of them are elite and knowledgeable leaders with different aura.
Supriya Sule (NCP)
Despite being the daughter of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule has very diligently created her identity in politics. She is known for her fiery speeches in political rallies and scathing replies to her detractors, she is equally careful about her words while she speaks in parliament. She is one of those few parliamentarians who speaks precisely with details n parliament doing all the analysis work. She has also received ‘Sansad Ratna Award.’
Pankaja Munde (BJP)
After the death of late politician Gopinath Munde, daughter Pankaja Munde became active in politics. Since then she has garnered good followers she has worked in her constituency. She makes her presence at several public gatherings where she gives speeches and criticizes her opponents. She has always tried to portray herself as a people leader like her father.
Dr. Neelam Gorhe (Shivsena)
Dr. Neelam Gorhe is an ardent shivsainik who has always stood by the party and has defended it very well several times. She is a learned politician with good leadership capabilities. She being the deputy chairman of Maharashtra’s Legislative Council itself depicts her potentials. She is a very calculated person who chooses her words wisely.
Yashomati Thakur (Congress)
The current MLA of Maharashtra and guardian minister of Amravati Yashomati Thakur is a poised and elegant politician. She is sharp with her words when it comes to criticizing her dissenters and in fact, she makes sure her voice is heard. She is a very opinionated politician. She is also active on social media through which she expresses her views.

Rupali Chakankar (NCP)
Recently, being the chairman of Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Rupali Chakankar makes headlines for firm stands on matters related to women and for her befitting replies to the one who criticizes her party NCP. She is a leader of the masses and she has good connect with ground-level party workers across the state.
