With Easing Of Covid Norms, Maharashtra Government Focuses On Boosting Economy Through Tourism


Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray commenced a series of projects of the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) to augment tourism. Thackeray kick-started initiatives like a new web portal of MTDC that will go live from Wednesday, a new boat club at Ganpatipule in Ratnagiri, a refurbished MTDC resort at Sinhagad fort in Pune.

MTDC also contracted a Memoranda of Understanding with online travel organizations like Make My Trip and Goibibo to publicize MTDC properties and with M/s SkyHigh India to initiate skydiving and adventure sports activities. An MoU was also signed with Maharashtra State Institute of Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Pune, for annual training of MTDC staff.

Thackeray said the state has a vivid class of destinations to attract domestic and international tourists, which will boost the economy and open employment opportunities for youths. “Two things are required to boost tourism. One is what we can offer to a wider range of tourists. Secondly, we must ensure that we come up with new tourist attractions,” he said.

Earlier, The Rs 167 crore project of a boardwalk-cum-cycle track from Mahim Fort to Bandra Fort got cleared by the Municipal Commissioner I S Chahal. The tenders for the project were proposed by Maharashtra Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray.
